A Space for Poetry
Alone
I chose this poem because of the message that nobody can survive alone. Also the stories on each stanza have a lot of descriptive words that are useful toward design. The concept is easy to understand and I have a greater idea of what to do because to that. Also there are a lot of design possibilities. For example at no point does it mention any type literal space it uses words like gathering, alone, home, and night so I can depict my own interpretation.
In this poem there is someone reflecting about what he and everyone wants in life. The recurring words spoke is alone and in context he says nobody can make it out alone. This shows that no one can survive without others in life. Basically that everyone needs to be loved. In the next stanza Maya tells a story about millionaires and how they need to move past the superficial things in life and love there family. Finally, she emphasizes the fact that nobody can make it out alone.
We never know how high we are
I chose this poem because originally in the multipurpose room when Karen showed examples of models from the past they all were relatively ground floor this made me think of using height to my advantage. In this poem just from the title you can see that height is prevalent through out. Also the word used like height, rise, skies allow some clarity toward design. This poem provides some direction to go forward with.
In the first stanza I understand that we never know our true potential and that is the theme of this poem. It goes on to explain that we don’t understand what we are capable until faced to prove ourselves. Then if we trust ourselves our work will be taken to infantine possibilities. The second stanza is like a story of how we would live our lives such as; if we perform daily acts of goodness it would be called heroism. Also if our reality turns astray we may loose our since of humility.
